Supporting Healing Everyday

ree

Hi Friend,

Since opening the doors of our Transitional Housing Program in 2018, we have welcomed dozens of women into safe, supportive housing where, over the course of the two-year program, each resident receives individualized, holistic care from our dedicated team and community partners.

As you’ve learned over the past few months through our previous newsletters, our on-site support system is anchored by our Case Manager, Restore Director, and Residential Support Coordinator, who make up the Direct Service Team. Together, they help residents navigate significant milestones and the everyday moments that make healing possible.

An integral part of the day-to-day rhythms in our Transitional Housing Program is our Residential Support Coordinator, Heidi Moga. Her approach to caring for clients blends practical support, emotional presence, and consistent relationship-building.

Much of the healing journey for survivors of exploitation happens quietly, woven into the everyday. For Heidi, simple tasks, such as driving a client to an appointment or walking the grocery store together, become intentional opportunities for connection.

As conversations unfold naturally, clients often share what is happening in their world, what they are navigating, what excites them, and where they may be struggling as they rebuild life after trauma. These shared moments open the door for Heidi to provide tailored support to each individual. With the client’s permission, she shares these insights with the other members of the Direct Service Team. This collaboration helps ensure that the entire care team has a complete, holistic understanding of each client’s needs.

Support can be simple and deeply empowering. Perhaps a client wants to try cooking a meal from scratch, but feels unsure where to begin. Heidi steps in with encouragement and hands-on help, turning an intimidating task into an opportunity for growing confidence and independence.

Monthly, Heidi and Anne host a gathering for residential clients to have fun, share a meal, and deepen relationship. This week, Heidi prepared soup in bread bowls, and everyone shared what they were thankful for. Sitting around a table, experiencing the joy of community, and expressing gratitude has kicked off our holiday season! It’s on nights like this that we see hope grow.

Human Trafficking in the News

Jennifer Saunders of KXAN recently published an excellent investigative piece on justice for human trafficking victims. “Justice is elusive for many impacted by the deadly realities of a multi-billion dollar industry: human trafficking. A KXAN investigation reveals while Texas is a leader in legislation to stop it, few people actually face trafficking charges. We uncover difficulties Texas prosecutors face in dismantling modern-day slavery and what it means for those seeking accountability.”
