To say it mildly, 2020 has been an incredibly difficult year.
If this year has left you heartbroken and exhausted, you're not alone.
When COVID-19 first struck near our Asia office in early January, we were completely overwhelmed and scared as we saw the devastating effects of this virus on society as a whole, particularly on vulnerable women and children.
Over the next few months, we continued to be overwhelmed and scared as COVID spread around the globe and affected EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. Suddenly all of our survivor beneficiaries, all of our staff, all of our partners, and many of our donors were struggling.
To be honest, we weren't sure if we would make it.
We weren't sure if we would be able to continue showing up to serve survivors of exploitation and trafficking when they needed us most.
AND YET. In the midst of this incredible challenge, our community (YOU!) have showed up with donations and encouragement that have allowed our small team to not only sustain our current programs but actually increase our services in order to meet the increased need.
We are beyond grateful that in a year where the number of crisis trafficking situations have increased by 40%, YOU have enabled us to provide services like safe shelter, direct rescue, medical care, childcare, mental health support, job placement, legal support and more to over 100 survivors of exploitation all over the world.
Here are some of the highlights:
In a year where having a safe place to live has never been more important, we provided over 2275 nights of safe shelter.
In a year where many survivors lost their jobs and struggled to find/keep work, we started a daycare in Asia so single moms could return to work, provided 25 women with job placements, and provided over 4300 hours of vocational training
In a year where so many struggled with mental health and addiction, we provided over 150 hours of counseling and therapy and over 81 medical treatments.
And SO MUCH MORE.
